Aquiares Estate sits on the fertile slopes of Costa Rica’s Turrialba Volcano, where coffee has been grown continuously since 1890. It has also been part of our Costa Rican selection since our early years, giving us the opportunity to encounter different varietals and processing methods from the estate over time.
This lot is produced from Esperanza, an F1 hybrid varietal developed for both cup quality and resilience, and performs particularly well in Costa Rica’s humid growing conditions. The coffee undergoes underwater fermentation as part of an African Washed process, bringing out a clean and vibrant cup with cranberry, caramel and cacao nibs.
Beyond the coffee itself, Aquiares has taken a long-term approach to the environment and the community around it. The estate is carbon neutral and carbon negative, and hosts climate research into carbon sequestration in shaded coffee systems. Its investment in people has been equally significant. Farm workers own their own homes, helping grow the estate into a bustling town with schools, healthcare, and community programmes.
Aquiares is a reminder that the quality we experience in the cup doesn’t exist in isolation. It can sit alongside long-term care for the land, the people who work with it and the community built around coffee.
Recommended to rest beans for 7-10 days from roast date before consuming.
