Nkira Kirorero comes from Rwanda's Western Province, an origin we've long admired for coffees where sweetness and clarity take centre stage. Grown on the steep hills surrounding Lake Kivu, Rwanda's combination of high elevations, volcanic soils, and meticulous washed processing has helped establish the country as one of the world's most respected coffee origins.
It first caught our attention for one reason: the cup. Smooth, balanced, and beautifully composed, it represented everything we look for in a high-quality washed Rwanda. Only then did we begin to understand the remarkable journey behind it.
Produced by the COOPAC cooperative, Kirorero brings together the harvests of more than 2,000 smallholder farmers from neighbouring communities. Hidden deep within the Gasuma Valley and accessible only after a long journey across Lake Kivu, the washing station reflects the remarkable commitment behind every harvest. What first impressed us in the cup became even more meaningful once we understood the dedication required to produce it.
