Coffee was a constant crop in and around the lands of Hacienda La Esmeralda since at least 1890. In 1967, the Peterson family bought these lands as a retirement venture, with mostly dairy cattle on the farms. Only in the mid 1980s did the family diversify and with the region's rich coffee production history, it was the ideal opportunity.
Selected for its towering altitude, the family hoped to develop livelier and nuanced coffees on the lands on the sides of Baru Volcano. The Private Collection Canas Verdes is a mix of high performing Geisha natural microlots from the Hacienda La Esmeralda El Velo Farm. Every microlot undergoes washing and drying at Hacienda La Esmeralda's mill in Palmira. Canas Verdes has a distinct 3 to 4 months of dry weather but even then, the air is cool.
After the rediscovery of Geisha, the Peterson family began purchasing smaller lots around the original Canas Verdes farm, allowing them to expand their Geisha production. Since then, many award-winning Esmeralda Geisha lots have been produced from the hillsides of Canas Verdes.
Aromatic and expressive, you are first welcomed with bursting lavender florals. A top note of riped peaches and cantaloupe follows with a silky and lingering red grapes sweetness in the finish.
