Aponte is an indigenous reserve in the mountains of Nariño, southern Colombia, where coffee has become part of a broader story of resilience and renewal. Once isolated by conflict, the community gradually shifted away from cultivating illicit crops, choosing instead to rebuild through traditional agriculture and coffee production. Today, producers from the reserve are recognised for coffees that reflect both their landscape and the collective effort behind it.
Produced by around 200 smallholder farmers, this lot is 100% Caturra and reflects a regional approach that differs from much of Colombia. While washed processing remains the country's most familiar style, honey processing has become the standard in Aponte. The region's cool temperatures, low humidity, and steady mountain winds allow the coffee to dry slowly, developing greater sweetness and a smooth, velvety texture while maintaining balance in the cup.
Orange and ripe apricot acidity open first, followed by dark chocolate sweetness and a rounded mouthfeel. As the coffee cools, notes of plum and other stone fruits emerge, creating a familiar Colombian profile with a softer, more layered expression.
